Adriano Adewale with Joanna MacGregor and the Britten Sinfonia

Monday 5th July Adriano Adewale is playing a very special concert with virtuoso pianist Joanna MacGregor and the Britten Sinfonia. The programme, which will also be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on Thursday 8th July at 7pm, includes repertoire ranging from J.S.Bach, Villa-Lobos and Gismonti to original compositions by Adriano Adewale. City of London Festival

June 25th Adriano Adewale and his octet Upatacum will perform on the steps of St Pauls as part of the City of London as part of the City of London Festival's procession. This unmissable annual event incorporating street arts, music, puppetry, dance and sculpture will wind through some of the oldest streets in London. In 2010 the Procession will begin in Guildhall Yard at 12.45pm on Friday 25 June, moving through Cornhill, Poultry, Cheapside, Paternoster Square and ending on the Steps of St Paul’s Cathedral with a musical spectacular featuring Adriano Adewale and Umpatacum and young people from the City’s surrounding boroughs with whom Adriano has been working. July 5th Bach meets Brazil at the Mansion House in this concert given by the outstanding pianist, Joanna MacGregor, joined by Adriano Adewale on percussion playing with one of the UK’s most dynamic and musically inquisitive chamber orchestras, the Britten Sinfonia. This programme crosses the invisible divide between the classical and popular Brazilian music. More info...

July 9th at St Ethelburgas Adriano Adewale will be joined by two special guests: fellow Brazilian composer and multi instrumentalist Marcelo Andrade and composer and guitarist Jonathan Preiss (Cartinga). Together they will perform a special concert exploring the work of 20th century Afro-Brazilian composer Pixinguinha. Living in Rio de Janeiro, Pixinguinha’s compositions were mainly in a style known as Chorinho and he was one of the first composers to incorporate Jazz and Improvisation in Brazilian music. Chorinho has many similarities to Baroque music, but with a distinctly Brazilian rhythm and flavour. More info...

Festival Brasileiro 21-23 May 2010 University of Essex

For three days in May the University of Essex will be host to a rich mixture of all things Brazilian as it presents FESTIVAL BRASILEIRO. The festival is the culmination of Adriano's year as Artist in Residence at the University of Essex and as Artistic Director, Adriano hope's that audiences will not only enjoy the performances and events he has lined up but will also learn something new about Brazilian culture. Derek Walcott: In conversation April 30th 2010

University of Essex Artist in Residence Adriano Adewale will perform his delicate and beautiful piece Sound Journey before special guest, Nobel Prize winning poet Derek Walcott.

Sound Journey is a virtuoso work of music, theatre and dance, evoking the enormity of traditional landscapes and communities from Africa to South America and is a mesmerizing and thought-provoking performance, guaranteed to awaken the senses.
